Local Superheros Break Ground for New Tower at Connecticut Children’s
Connecticut Children’s Foundation Board Member Louis George was humbled to be a part of the groundbreaking event for the new tower to be built at the hospital. Coupled with the hospital’s annual Superhero Day, the groundbreaking was attended by a host of local superheroes.

Attorney Mike Conroy Moderates Roundtable
Attorney Conroy recently gave a presentation to the New Haven Association of Insurance Professionals regarding the insurance claim appraisal process, which is intended to be a more streamlined, cost-effective method than litigation of resolving claim disputes between insurance companies and their insureds. Drawing on his 30 years of experience in handling, negotiating and litigating insurance claims and coverage issues, Attorney Conroy reviewed for the group emerging trends in the claim appraisal process, then led a round table discussion regarding efficient claim resolution best practices. CARES Act Offers Relief to Small Businesses
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed into law by President Trump on Friday afternoon. What does it mean for small businesses?
The full text of the Federal stimulus package, or CARES Act, was over 850 pages, and even with this length, there are still ambiguities and unanswered questions that will be clarified over the next week or so. Below we have provided a summary of what we know so far.
When will this begin?
Because of the enormous size of the relief and the complicated nature of the Act, it will take at least a week to two weeks to begin the implementation process. Stay tuned! Read More…

Hassett & George Is Fore The Kids
Kudos to Lou George and the entire Geno Auriemma Fore The Kids Charity Golf Tournament Planning Committee for a job well done. The tournament was a resounding success! Tournament proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, funding a new transport isolette for the NICU. As a Level IV NICU, the highest level trauma certification, CCMC treats the sickest infants in the region. Last year more than 300 newborns were transported to CCMC from regional hospitals, and this new isolette will enhance the care they can provide to these tiny patients.
Louis George Completes Successful Term as Simsbury Chamber President
Congratulations to Louis George for completing his term as President of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce. So much was accomplished during his term – the relocation of the Chamber office to a highly visible space in the center of town, the Seward Johnson sculpture project, the establishment of the Simsbury Young Professionals, and many successful events including the Business Leaders Breakfast, the Leadership Awards Luncheon, and the Spooktacular Chili Challenge. Paralegal Melanie Jordan joined in on the fun biking 30 miles around Manhattan in the “Bike MS: New York City” event. Melanie raised $630 for the National MS Society, and her team total was over $12,000!

The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce hosted its 10th Annual Business Leaders Breakfast at Dunkin Donuts Park in downtown Hartford on March 9. Following the event, Chamber President Lou George said, “We were thrilled to have Randy Edsall, UConn Head Football Coach, and Tim Restall, Hartford Yard Goats President, as our speakers. Dunkin Donuts Park was a great venue for our “Building From The Ground Up” theme. I’d also like to extend my thanks to Mayor Luke Bronin for welcoming our group of 260 business leaders this morning.”

Lou George once again served on the planning committee for Geno Auriemma’s Fore The Kids Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament proceeds benefit Connecticut Children’s Medical Center’s nationally-recognized Orthopedic Program, helping fund the purchase of an ultra low-dose 2D/3D imaging system. Real-time images will provide surgeons instant feedback, shortening surgery and recovery times, and make imaging safer for our children. Over the past 14 years, the tournament has raised more than $1.4 million for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Hassett & George is proud to sponsor this event each year.

H&G’s judge duck raises money for community kids
Hassett & George joined many local businesses in sponsoring this year’s Simsbury Duck Race. This event showcases the creativity of our local businesses as they compete to create the “best decorated duck” while also raising money to support enrichment programs for community children. Following the Business Duck competition, thousands of racer ducks raced down the Farmington River, under the Flower Bridge, and across the finish line. Director of Administration, Jennifer O’Toole, was Co-Chair of the event.
From crunching numbers to curling, H&G’s director of finance does it all
Hassett & George’s Director of Finance, Maura Cockey, doesn’t just work hard while she’s in the office……she’s also devotes much of her time outside the office to promoting the sport of curling. As President of the Nutmeg Curling Club, Maura is leading an effort to educate children and adults about curling. She and her husband were recently featured in an article in the Milford Mirror.

Ray Hassett moderates annual glastonbury town meeting
Attorney Ray Hassett recently served as the Moderator of the annual Glastonbury Town Meeting. This the fifth consecutive year he has served in this capacity, which is required by the Town Charter. In his role, he facilitates the presentation of the Board of Education and Town budget as well as public commentary.

Jared Alfin makes presentation to condo associations
Attorney Jared Alfin recently spoke at the Community Associations Institute’s Legal & Legislative Symposium on topics affecting Connecticut condominium associations including (1) fiduciary duties/responsibilities applicable to HOA Board Members, (2) fiduciary duties of Board Members to act in the HOA’s best interest; and (3) the importance of a HOA investment policy, including established investing goals and fiduciary management. Attorney Alfin speaks on HOA topics from time to time and has been a member of the Community Associations Institute (Connecticut Chapter) since 2014.

The Hassett & George team got good and muddy at this year’s Rugged Maniac event. Congrats to our team for making it back to the office on Monday after battling through this obstacle course race of water slides, fire jumps, trampolines and underground tunnels.
