Robert W. Heagney
Attorney Robert W. Heagney concentrates in the area of employment law, counseling employers and employees on their employment-related rights
and responsibilities.
Mr. Heagney has represented and continues to represent many individual plaintiffs in the litigation of employment claims. Mr. Heagney’s employment law
experience includes drafting and counseling on separation packages, counseling on progressive disciplinary actions, and response to discriminatory or
retaliatory employment action, whether related to race, gender, age, national origin, or other forms of discrimination. Mr. Heagney has represented numerous
businesses and non-profit organizations with regard to their employment issues and concerns.
Mr. Heagney was lead counsel in the matter of Finley v. Aetna Life & Casualty Co., 202 Conn. 190 (1987); 520 A.2d 208 (1987) which established Connecticut
law on Employer Handbooks as contracts with employees.
Mr. Heagney is also involved in residential and commercial real estate transactions, representing buyers and sellers, as well as the formation and
maintenance of business entities. Mr. Heagney’s versatility takes him from administrative hearings to the Federal Courts.
Mr. Heagney is a graduate of Saint Anselm College (B.A. 1975); Quinnipiac College School of Law (J.D. 1980). Mr. Heagney is admitted to practice in all
Connecticut State Court, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Mr. Heagney is also
admitted to practice before the United States Department of Labor Administrative Hearings.
Mr. Heagney is a member of the American, Hartford County and Connecticut Bar Associations. Mr. Heagney is a member of the General Assembly representing the
16th Legislative District. The 16th Legislative District encompasses the Town of Simsbury. Mr. Heagney is the House Ranking Member on the Education
Committee, and serves on the Banks Committee and the Higher Education Committee.
